Women's Cross Country, Borriello Earn All-Academic Honors

The St. Thomas Aquinas Women's Cross Country team has been named a 2015 Division II All-Academic team by the USTFCCCA.  Sophomore standout Kristen Borriello has also garnered an individual All-Academic award.

This academic honor says a lot about the STAC program.  The team holds a 3.1 GPA, excelling in the classroom as well as on the trails.  This same group of talented young women qualified for the programs first ever National Championship this past season.  The Spartans finished in the top 3 in every race leading up to nationals.  The team includes two All-Region runners as well as four All-Conference runners.

The Spartans were one of 137 women’s programs that earned All-Academic Team honors.  Teams must have compiled a cumulative grand point average of at least 3.0 and must have scored at an NCAA Division II regional meet to qualify for All-Academic awards.  This is the 7th consecutive year the Lady Spartans have been honored.

This is the second All-Academic award for Borriello in two years.  Borriello, a biology major, holds a 3.64 GPA.  She is a leader in the classroom as well as on the team.  A two-time All-Region and All-Conference runner, Borriello holds the the school 5K record of 18:13 which she set at the ECC Championship this season.

The individual All-Academic honor was awarded to those athletes who have compiled a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.25 and finished among the top 30 percent of eligible runners at his or her regional championships and/or the top half of the field at the NCAA Championships.  Borriello was one in a class of 384 All-Academic women.
