Five Spartans Named All-Conference Runners

Five Spartans Named All-Conference Runners

Following strong performance at the 2015 East Coast Conference Cross Country Championships, five runners were named to the All-Conference team.  Sophomore Kristen Borriello was named to the First Team, while Sophomore Katie O'Grady, senior Gabriela Sloezen and redshirt junior Meaghan Ventarola were name to the Second Team.  Sophomore Vincent Vazquez was named to the men's Second Team.

The Spartans led the conference with four All-Conference team members on the women's side. Borriello, who was a Second Team All-Conference selection as a rookie in 2014 has had a phenomenal season to this point.  She set the STAC 5K record at the ECC CHampioship finishing in 18:13 which was good for 5th place.  Borriello has been the top Spartan finisher in three of the five races this season.  Borriello also hold the STAC 6K record which she set last season.  O'Grady ran her best race of the 2015 and is ready for the regional race after nabbing Second Team honors.  A first team selection last season, O'Grady is a consistent threat for the Spartans.  She has finished in the STAC top three in every race she has competed in this year.  Sloezen earned her first All-Conference award. A second team honoree, she ran a personal best 18:41.  Sloezen has also been a key to the success of the team all season.  Ventarola, a second time recipient was the fourth scorer for the Spartans at the ECC Championship.  She has finished second for STAC in three of their five races.  In her first place finish for the Spartans at the NJIT Technology Challenge she set the previous school 5K record.

Vazquez earned his first All-Conference award, notching Second-Team honors.  He finished 14th in the ECC Championship.  Vazquez has led the Spartans in every race this season.  His personal best of 26:36 wast set at the championship race.
