St. Thomas Aquinas baseball player, Mike Russo was named the Daktronics East Region Player of the Year. Russo was a first team All Region selection along with teammates, Rich Baerga, Efrain Bautista and Stanley Susana. Russo was a second team Daktronics All American Selection.
Russo completed the season batting .343 with 62 hits, 62 RBI and 47 runs. The senior power hitter also blasted 11 home runs on the season, 4 triples and 17 doubles with a team high slugging percentage of .663. Russo was also named ECC and NCBWA player of the year. Russo is now a two time All American selection as he was named to the third team in 2011-2012.
Baerga and Bautista were also NCWBA first team all region selections, while Susana was named to the second team. The Spartans finished with a record breaking season of 39 wins, a regular season title as well as the conference championship and their first ever NCAA tournament appearance.
