Spartans Finish 5th at Super Regional; Koerner Advances to NCAA Championship Finals

The St. Thomas Aquinas golf team finished in 5th place at the completion of the 2015 NCAA Division II Men's Golf Championships.  STAC moved up one spot during the third round but it was not enough for the team to advance.  Senior Niklas Koerner finished in 5th place overall to advance as an individual to the NCAA Championship Finals on May 18-22.  The finals will be held at Rock Barn Golf & Spa in Conover, North Carolina hosted by Lenoir-Rhyne University.

Koerner shot a 70 for his third and final round to total a three day score of 223.  At a minimum, the top three teams from each region automatically advance as well as the top two student-athletes not with a team from each regional.

As a whole the Spartans put together their best round of the tournament on day three shooting a 291; tying the team low score for the event.  However, it was not enough to overcome the 6-stroke difference between them and the third place team.

Fellow Senior Kai Rastetter put together a solid tournament for the Spartans posting scores of; 78, 75, 70, to finish tied for 12th place overall.  Chris Gentle and Kevin Gately both shot 73 on their final round.

The Spartans have participated in the NCAA Division II golf championship finals five out of the last six years. Koerner will help STAC keep the tradition alive as he compete's in the opening round on Mat 18th.
