Gately Shoots 1-Under Par In Second Round of NCAA Championship

St. Thomas Aquinas College golfer Kevin Gately carded a 71 in today's round of the NCAA Championship.   The junior had three birdies and two bogeys during his round finishing as the low scorer for the Spartans.

Gately recorded a bogey on hole #1 but recovered well posting six pars and two birdies to shoot 1-under on the front. Gately's only other setback came on the 11th hole where he had his second bogey however he was able to make up for it with a birdie on the 18th hole to finish 1-under.

Michael Frizalone continued his steady play shooting even par, 72 during his round.  Frizalone is 1-over after two rounds and tied for 36th place.  The freshmen got off to a strong start today with four birdies on the front nine but finished even after a tougher back nine.

Michael Miranda had a strong finish shooting 3-under on the back nine to card a 74 for the day. Christopher Gentle and Brendan Hunter improved on their first round performances, each posted scores of 75 today.

St. Leo has a strong hold on first place posting a team score 273 to go 9-under on day two.  The Lions put together an even stronger performance from their opening round, 278.  St. Leo's Hugo Bernard and Joey Savoie are in first and second place respectively.

The Spartans were six strokes better today then on Tuesday as they posted a team score of 292, but it was not enough to move them up on the leaderboard.  STAC is currently in 16th place going into the third round beginning tomorrow morning at 8:25 am.  You can follow the Spartans live on the golfstat web site.
