Men's Basketball Stumbles at East Stroudsburg, 99-75

After bolting from the gate with a pair of wins, the St. Thomas Aquinas College men's basketball team suffered their second straight defeat, 99-75, at East Stroudsburg University. Mike Woods led all scorers with 22 points and Justin Brown added 17 to lead the Spartan attack, but it wasn't enough to prevent their team from falling to 2-2 on the season. East Stroudsburg spread the wealth with six scorers in double-figures as the Warriors improved to 3-3 with the win.

The Spartans struggled from the outset as the hosts bolted to a 22-10 lead just six minutes into the affair. STAC showed some spirit in its own right, needing just three minutes and an 11-2 run to close the margin to 24-21. While St. Thomas Aquinas managed to hang around, the hosts' depth began to take its toll as they gradually extended their edge to 49-39 at halftime.

Posting a 58% mark from the field in the first 20 minutes wasn't enough for the hosts, who continued their torrid shooting after the break, scoring 11 of the first 13 points to open a 19-point chasm that wouldn't be threatened thereafter. The Warriors led by as many as 30 as Terrance King (20 points), Matt Tobin (16), Duane Johnson (13), Whis Grant (12), and Russell Graham III (10) filled the scoresheet for the hosts.

Stroudsburg was lights out from the field, shooting a torrid 62% for the contest (37-60) while the Spartans converted at 45% (30-67). ESU dominated the glass, 43-26, and poured in eight three-pointers in cruising to the win.

Tonight was game three of five straight away from home for the Spartans, as they proceed to face legendary Coach Herb Magee's Philadelphia University on Sunday, November 27; and take the turnpike south to meet Wilmington University in Delaware on Wednesday, November 30. They return to Sparkill to host Queens College in their East Coast Conference opener on Wednesday, December 7. Tip-off time for that game is set for 7:30 pm after the women's contest, and both games will be carried live on New Media Television Sports.
