Spartan Sprint Football Takes On Army West Point Saturday
WEST POINT, N.Y. -- The St. Thomas Aquinas College sprint football team will take its road show to Shea Stadium on Saturday afternoon, when the Spartans (2-0, 1-0 CSFL North) square off with host and defending Collegiate Sprint Football League champion Army West Point (2-0) in a 1 p.m. kickoff.

Head coach Matt Barry's STAC squad will wrap up its two-game road swing against the Black Knights, and improved to 2-0 last Saturday with a 35-21 triumph at Caldwell University. Senior signal caller Luke Sullivan (25-for-51, 484 yds., 7 TD, 2 INT) went to the air for five touchdown passes in the contest, and sent the Spartans to the first 21 points of the contest before halftime. James Hanigan (5 rec., 163 yds. on the season) scored on a pair of 60-plus-yard receptions, and is one of six Spartans who have reeled in a touchdown strike from Sullivan in the team's inaugural campaign.

On the ground, Carlos Fernandez has toted the pigskin 23 times for 137 yards, good for a 6.0 per-carry average. Defensively, Kyle Teneyck has a team-best 4.5 sacks on the year and fell on a fumble in the end zone for a touchdown in the team's opener versus Post University two weeks ago. Will Smith (team-high 16 tackles) has 4.0 tackles for loss to his credit, while seven different STAC student-athletes have recovered fumbles in helping Barry's side to own a plus-two turnover margin in 2018.

Army West Point will play its home opener after a pair of road victories to start the season, including last Friday night's emotional, come-from-behind victory at service academy arch-rival Navy by a 17-14 margin. Reigning CSFL Offensive Player of the Week and quarterback Keegan West fired a pair of touchdown passes while completing 27-of-37 passes for 248 yards. Tom Williamson (11 rec., 136 yds.) and Clayton Carter (6 rec., 106 yds.) have both caught two touchdowns on the season, while Zach Lechthaler (4.5), Tate Blessinger (team-high 22 tackles) and Connor Long all have 4.0-plus tackles for loss on the defensive side of the ball.
