STAC Golf Concludes Outstanding 2021-2022 Season at NCAA Division II Championship

Dearborn, Michigan - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Golf team wrapped up an outstanding 2021-2022 season, finishing in 12th place at the NCAA Division II Golf Championships at TPC Michigan. 

On the final day of stroke play, STAC posted tournament-best team score of 301, which was 13 over par. Over the 54-hole, three-day event, the Spartans improved with each round of the tournament, posting collective scores of 308, 306 and 301 for a final total of 915 and shooting 51 over par.

Individually, sophomore Donte Groppuso led the maroon and gold on the links, closing his season with championship scores of 81, 75 and 73 for a total of 229, which was 13 over par and placed Groppuso in a five-way tie for 46th overall. Freshman Nolan Skaggs (T61st - 75, 78, 78 = 231/+15), senior Jake Yarmolowitz (T70th - 77, 84, 73 = 234/+18), senior Joe Tammaro (T81st - 82, 77, 77 = 236/+20) and junior Norman Viron (T81st - 75, 76, 85 =236/+20) rounded out the scoring in the Spartans ninth NCAA National Championship event in the last 14 years.

STAC's spectacular campaign was highlighted by six-top 10 team finishes in the regular season, with the Spartans finishing in the top five in six of those events and placing first at both the Dominican College Charger Challenge and Mercyhurst University Spring Invitational.

2021-2022 GOLF SCHEDULE & RESULTS

At the NCAA Division II Atlantic/East Super Regional, St. Thomas Aquinas captured its third regional crown in program history, finishing the three-day regional event with a total team score of 881, which was 17 over par and two strokes ahead of second place finishers, the University of Charleston (883/+19). The Spartans never relinquished their hold on first place at any point during the tournament, leading by as much as six strokes over the UC Golden Eagles after day one and as few as one stroke following day two.
