  • Matt Matcovich and Chris Muniz Receive Top ECC Honors

    Seniors Matt Matcovich and Chris Muniz were both honored at the East Coast Conference 1st Annual Awards Dinner. Matcovich recieved the ECC Male Scholar-Athlete Award along with being named the Baseball Scholar-Athlete of the Year for this Spring. Muniz received the prestigious ECC Community and Character Award.

    The St. Thomas Aquinas College cross country team ended the season on a positive note as each runner improved their time on the Franklin Park 6K and 10K courses. The men’s team finished in 21st place with senior Einar Brissing leading the way.

  • Sarah Callagy Named ECC Runner of the Week

    St. Thomas Aquinas women's cross country runner Sarah Callagy was named the ECC Runner of the Week for the second week in a row. Callagy ran a personal best for the third consecutive week, completing the UAlbany Invitational 5K course in 19:43, setting a new school record. The sophomore has been the first Lady Spartan finisher in every race this season.
  • Modaferri Breaks 26:00 at UAlbany Invitational; Five Runners Set Personal Records

    The Spartans had a very successful day at the UAlbany Invitational on Saturday. The top two runners on both the men's and women's sides (Vinny Modaferri, Einar Brissing, Sarah Callagy and Chelsea Klinger) ran personal bests along with freshman Kelsey Scardera. Modafferi (25:58) is the first Spartan to break 26:00 minutes under head coach Nicole Ballou. Brissing crossed the line in 26:20 as the second Spartan finisher. On the women's side Callagy ran a personal best for the third consecutive week finishing in 19:43 followed by classmate Klinger in 20:17. Freshman Kelsey Scardera dropped two minutes from her best time.

    St. Thomas Aquinas women's cross country runner Sarah Callagy was named the ECC Runner of the Week. Callagy recorded a personal best as she placed third in the 6th Annual Highlander Invitational at Branch Brook Park in Newark, NJ, covering the 5K course in 19:58.
  • Spartans Compete at Highlander Invitational; Four Personal Bests Recorded

    The St. Thomas Aquinas Cross Country Teams raced at the Highlander Invitational at Branch Brook Park in Newark, NJ. Sophomores Sarah Callagy and Chelsea Klinger set personal marks in 19:58 and 20:57 respectively. Senior captain Einar Brissing came through in 26:39 and freshman James Patton continued to improve with another twenty second drop crossing the line in 29:29.
  • Brissing Earns ECC Male Runner of the Week

    St. Thomas Aquinas men's cross country runner Einar Brissing was named the ECC Male Runner of the Week. Brissing was the first finisher at the College of Staten Island Invitational at Van Cortlandt Park on Sunday. He crossed the line in 28:56. This marks his second first place finish of the 2009 season.
  • Brissing, Modafferi Take Top Two Spots in CSI Invitational; Callagy Places 2nd for Lady Spartans

    The STAC Cross Country team competed in the College of Staten Island Invitational on Sunday at Van Cortlandt Park. In the 8K race, senior Einar Brissing took first place with a time of 28:56. He was closely followed by classmate Vinny Modafferi who clocked a time of 29:09 which was good for second place. Sarah Callagy was the second finisher in the women's 6K with a time of 26:27. Chelsea Klinger also finished in the top ten in 28:05.
  • Eight Spartans Set Personal Records at NYIT Invitational

    The St. Thomas Aquinas Cross Country team continued to improve their times this weekend with eight runners acheiving personal bests at Bethpage State Park. Sarah Callagy and Chelsea Klinger lead the way for the women's team while Einar Brissing and Vinny Modafferi were the top scorers for the men. Freshman James Patton stepped up, dropping four minutes off of his previous best.
  • Lady Spartans Take Fourth, Men Finish Sixth

    Sophomore Sarah Callagy remained strong with a second place finish at the CW Post Invitational which helped the Lady Spartans secure a fourth place finish on the Brookville, Long Island course. On the Men's side, senior Vinny Modaferri was the first Spartan to cross the line in 29:00 which placed him in fourth for the day. CW Post hosted the race as preview for the East Coast Conference Championship which will be held on October 25th at the same location.
  • Brissing and Callagy Take First in Cross Country Openers; Men and Women Finish Second Overall

    The St. Thomas Aquinas College cross country teams made a statement in their opening race by being the first to cross the line on both the men's and women's sides. Senior captain, Einar Brissing coasted to the win on the 5K course at Tallman Park in 17:16. He was closely followed by fellow senior Vinny Modaferri, who held on to a second place finish in 17:37. Despite their strong efforts, the men missed a top finish by a mere two points, falling to Bloomfield College. The Lady Spartans showed a great deal of improvement in their first competition with strong finishes throughout the group. Sophomore Sarah Callagy, lead the field, crossing the line in 20:16. She was followed closely by classmate Chelsea Klinger who notched a third place finish and personal best 21:19.
