  • Spartan Runners Participate in the Great Strides Cystic Fibrosis Walk

    On Sunday, the St. Thomas Aquinas Cross Country/Track & Field athletes went out to support one of their teammates in trying to find a cure for Cystic Fibrosis. The Great Strides program brought together many people from Rockland County for a 3K walk for a cure at Albertus Magnus High School.
  • O'Grady Wins Smillie Award; Spartans Take Home Community Cup

    Sophomore runner Katie O'Grady was honored by the East Coast Conference with the John Smillie, Jr. Award for overcoming personal and physical challenges to continue to play the sport that she loves. Katie has excelled as a First Team All-Conference Cross Country runner for the Spartans despite her battle with Cystic Fibrosis that effects her breathing. The Spartan Athletic program also won their 6th consecutive Community Cup which represents the school with the most community service hours done by their student-athletes.
  • Kristen Borriello Named to USTFCCCA All-Region Team

    St. Thomas Aquinas freshman Kristen Borriello has been named to the USTFCCCA East All-Region team for her performance in the regional championship of November 22nd. Borriello finished in 19th place which is a program best for the Lady Spartans. Her time of 22:40 in the STAC school record in the 6K.
  • Lady Spartans Finish 5th at NCAA East Regional, Chegwidden Leads Men

    The St. Thomas Aquinas women's cross country team posted a program best 5th place finish at the NCAA DII East Regional in Nashua New Hampshire. This capped off a record breaking season for the Lady Spartans as they positioned themselves as a top competitor in the East Region. Freshman Kristen Borriello and sophomore Katie O'Grady led the Lady Spartans. Senior Joe Chegwidden finished off his career as the top runner for the men's squad in the 10K race.

    The St. Thomas Aquinas women's crossed country team held their spot at #3 in the East Region for the 5th consecutive week. This ranking follows their 2nd place finish at the East Coast Conference Championship last weekend.
  • Four Lady Spartans Named to Cross Country All-Conference Team

    Following a great race at the East Coast Conference Championship, four member of the St. Thomas Aquinas women's cross country team were named to the ECC All-Conference team. Sophomore Katie O'Grady, Freshmen Kristen Borriello and Angelica Matwiejzcuk and redshirt sophomore Meaghan Ventarola are all first time honorees.

    The St. Thomas Aquinas women's cross country team remains in the 3rd spot in the USTFCCA ranking for the third consecutive week. This ranking follows strong individual performances at the Haverford Invitational on Friday. The Lady Spartans were led by rookie Kristen Borriello's 6th place finish.

    The Spartans earned three of the four ECC Cross Country Weekly awards for their performance at the Haverford Invitational. Vincent Vazquez was named Runner of the Week while teammate Asaad Jeffrey garnered Rookie of the Week honors. Lady Spartan Kristen Borriello was also name Rookie of the Week.

    The St. Thomas Aquinas cross country team raced at the Haverford Invitational in Haverford, PA on Saturday. Rookie Kristen Borriello was the first Lady Spartan finisher for the second consecutive week. Freshmen Vincent Vazquez was the top male finisher in the four mile race.

    The Lady Spartan Cross Country team has held their position at #3 in the East Region in the latest USTFCCCA poll. The team was idle from competition this week, but team victories in their last two races helped them to maintain their ranking.
  • Spartans Sweep Weekly Awards

    The St. Thomas Aquinas Cross Country program took every major category in the ECC Weekly Awards. Senior Joe Chegwidden was named Men's Runner of the Week following a 4th place finish at the CTC Championship. Freshmen Vincent Vazquez was tabbed Rookie of the Week for the 3rd consecutive week. Freshman Kristen Borriello was named Female Runner of the Week after her first collegiate victory at the CTC Championship. Chegwidden was the first STAC finisher to cross the line at the Jack St. Clair Memorial Race. He finished in fifth place overall and was a key component in the Spartan’s third place finish. He also helped STAC in their second place finish in the CTC Championship. Vazquez was the second Spartan finisher, crossing the line in 28:27 at the challenging Belmont Plateau course in Philadelphia, Pa. Borriello won the CTC Championship race, leading her team to their first Collegiate Track Conference Championship. The Lady Spartans also finished first in the Jack St. Clair Memorial as Borriello was the first Lady Spartan across the line, finishing third overall. Borriello’s first place finish in the CTC Championships marks her first collegiate win in her first ever 6K race. She crossed the line in 24:11.
  • Lady Spartans Ranked 3rd in East Region

    The St. Thomas Aquinas women's cross country team has made another jump in the USTFCCCA East Region ranking this week, moving up three spots. The Lady Spartans entered the ranking only two weeks ago at number 10, but back to back wins against numerous ranked opponents has fostered the move.
  • Lady Spartans win CTC Championship; Men Take 2nd

    Rookie Kristen Borriello won the CTC Championship race leading her team to their first Collegiate Track Conference Championship. The Lady Spartans also finished first in the Jack St Clair Memorial. The men's squad, led by senior Joe Chegwidden finished 2nd in the CTC Championship and 3rd in the Jack St. Clair Memorial.
  • Vazquez Earns Rookie of the Week Honors

    Vincent Vazquez of the Spartan cross country team had been tabbed the East Coast Conference Rookie of the Week for the second consecutive week. He recorded a new personal best time of 26:46 at the Technology XC Highlander Challenge at Branch Brook Park. Vazquez finished in 16th place to help the Spartan secure their fifth place team finish.

    The St. Thomas Aquinas women's cross country team is ranked 6th in the East Region in the latest USTFCCCA Poll. This is the highest ranking for the Lady Spartans in their NCAA DII history. The ranking follows a 1st Place finish at the Highlander XC Technology Challenge last weekend.

    The St. Thomas Aquinas cross country team took 1st at the NJIT Highlander Challenge at Branch Brook Park. Sophomore Katie O'Grady set the pace while setting the new Spartan 5K record of 18:41. STAC had 5 finishers in the top 15.

    Freshman runner Vincent Vazquez has been named the East Coast Conference Rookie of the Week following a strong performance at the Harry F. Anderson Invitational at Roberts Weslyan College. Vazquez was the first Spartan finisher covering the 8K course in 27:28.

  • Vazquez & O'Grady Lead Way for Spartans

    The St. Thomas Aquinas cross country teams participated in the Harry Anderson Invitational at Roberts Wesleyan College in Rochester, NY. The race was a preview for the 2014 ECC Championships which will be held on that course for the first time. Freshmen Vincent Vazquez was the first Spartan finisher while sophomore Katie O'Grady was the first to cross the line for the Lady Spartans.
  • Spartan Cross Country Hosts Alumni Race

    On Saturday, the STAC Cross Country program hosted their annual Spartan Alumni Run. The men and women ran in their only co-ed race of the season, a 5K at the Spartans home course at Tallman State Park. 2014 graduate Mike Galonski won the race overall, with Meaghan Ventarola and Katie O'Grady sharing the honors for the women. Following the race, the team and alumni enjoyed a bbq back at the St. Thomas Aquinas campus.
  • Asaad Jeffrey Named Cross Country Rookie of the Week

    Asaad Jeffrey of the St. Thomas Aquinas Cross Country Team has been named the East Coast Conference Rookie of the Week. In his collegiate debut, he was the first Spartan finisher at the LIU Post Invitational. Jeffrey crossed the line in 27:22.
  • Lady Spartans Take 4th, Rookies Lead Men's Squad

    The St. Thomas Aquinas College Cross Country team opened the 2014 season at the LIU Post Invitational in Brookville, NY. Sophomore Katie O'Grady ran a personal best 19:12 to help the Lady Spartans secure a 4th place finish. Freshmen Asaad Jeffrey and Vinny Vazquez were the first two finishers for the Spartans in their collegiate debut.
  • Lady Spartan XC Ranked 3rd, Men 4th in ECC Preseason Poll

    According the East Coast Conference Cross Country Preseason Poll, the STAC Women's team has been chosen to finish 3rd for the 2014 season, while the men have been ranked 4th. The squad will open their season on Saturday at the LIU Post Invitational.
  • Spartan Runners Lend A Hand at South Nyack 10 Miler

    The St. Thomas Aquinas Cross Country team opened their season at the South Nyack 10 Miler. Instead of racing, they volunteered to distribute water to the 417 participants. The race raises money of for the South Nyack and Piermont Volunteer Fire Departments, the Rockland Road Runner Scholarship Fund and the Nyack Soup Kitchens.
