  • Spartan Trio Named to Ping All Region Team

    St. Thomas Aquinas golfers, Chris Fitzpatrick, Patrick Schwarze and Brian Viola were named to the 2009 Ping Division II East All-Region Team as was announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America. The trio helped lead the Spartans to their first Division II NCAA Championship appearance where they finished 18th in the nation. Fitzpatrick shot a four day score of 300 to place him tied for 33rd out of over 100 golfers. Schwarze and Viola finished the collegiate careers at the nationals with total scores of 319 and 322 respectively.
  • Spartans Finish NCAA Championship, 18th in the Country

    The St. Thomas Aquinas men's golf team completed their final round of the Division II NCAA Championship. This was the first time in program history that STAC has competed in the National Championship. The Spartans finished 18th with a four day team score of 1261. Sophomore Chris Fitzpatrick finished tied for 33rd with a four day score of 300. Fitzpatrick scored a 78 in his final round after playing even par on Thursday.

    The St. Thomas Aquinas men's golf team completed their third round of the NCAA Championship with a team score of 317. Sophomore Chris Fitzpatrick shot a team low even par (71), for the day. Fitzpatrick currently ranks tied for 20th place after shooting 76, 75, 71 for a three day total of 222. The Spartans will be heading into their final round tomorrow morning. Tomorrow will complete the playing careers of STAC seniors Brian Viola and Patrick Schwarze. Viola shot a 79 today while Schwarze posted an 83.
  • Spartans Struggle in Opening Round

    The St. Thomas Aquinas men's golf team completed their first round on the NCAA Championship Tournament with a team score of 318. The Spartans finished the day in 18th place and will take the course early Wednesday morning. Chris Fitzpatrick led the Spartans with a 76 followed by Sean Campbell's 79. Barry University and Sonoma State are currently tied for first with a team score of 293.
  • Spartans Bounce Back with Stronger Second Round

    The St. Thomas Aquinas men's golf team had a much stronger performance in the second round of the NCAA Division II Championship. STAC finished today's round with a team score of 304 advancing them one spot to 17th place. Chris Fitzpatrick, Sean Campbell and Brian Viola each shot 75 for the day while Patrick Schwarze had a 79 and John Casey recorded an 83. The Spartans improved fourteen strokes from their opening round.

  • Spartans Set To Make History

    The St. Thomas Aquinas golf team is set for their trip out west to compete in the NCAA Division II National Golf Championship. STAC will depart early Saturday morning for the Loomis Trail Golf Club in Blaine, Washington. This is the first time in program history that STAC has reached the Championship Finals. The Spartans were paid a special visit by local News 12 yesterday prior to practice, to discuss their recent accomplishments.

    The St. Thomas Aquinas men's golf team is preparing for their first trip to the NCAA Division II Men's Golf Championship. The Spartans will depart on Saturday May 16th for Blaine, Washington. STAC will play practice rounds on Sunday and Monday and then begin their four day tournament on Tuesday. The tournament is being played at the Loomis Trail Golf Club.   • Spartans Advance to NCAA Championship Finals

    The St. Thomas Aquinas men's golf team pulled off a stellar performance at the NCAA Division II Super Regionals. The Spartans struggled in their opening round posting a team score of 322. However, the Spartans came back with team scores of 306 and 305 in the second and third rounds respectively. STAC was led by sophomore Chris Fitzpatrick who shot a three day score of 228 (77, 77, 74) and tied for fifth overall. The Spartans advance to the NCAA Division II Championship finals May 19-22 at Loomis Trail Golf Club in Blaine, Washington. This is the first time in the programs history the Spartans have advanced this far.
  • Spartans Come Back Strong in Round Two

    The St. Thomas Aquinas golf team put together a strong second round in the NCAA tournament. The round began on Tuesday but was cut short due to the weather and finshed this morning. STAC had a first day score of 322 on Monday and came back with a strong 306 for round two. Sophomore Chris Fitzpatrick led the Spartans with a score of 77 for both days making him tied for thirteenth overall.

    The St. Thomas Aquinas golf team is in seventh place in the NCAA Super Regionals at Glade Springs. Sophomore Chris Fitzpatrick is tied for eleventh place after posting an opening round of 77. Brian Viola shot 80 on day one to help pace the Spartans to a team score of 322.

  • STAC Men's Golf Selected to Play in NCAA Championship

    The St. Thomas Aquinas men's golf team has been selected to play in the 2009 NCAA Division II Men’s Golf Championships, which will be hosted by The Resort at Glade Springs' Cobb Course. The tournament will be played from May 4th-6th. The Spartans will be among the field that consists of eighty teams and thirty-two individuals. The top five teams and the top two individuals not with a team from each regional (regardless of region) will advance to the finals May 19-22 at Loomis Trail Golf Club in Blaine, Washington.
  • Fitzpatrick Dominates, Leading Spartans To Second Victory of Spring

    The St. Thomas Aquinas Men's golf team won their second event of the spring at Nyack College's event held at Blue Hill Golf Course. The Spartans were led by Chris Fitzpatrick who shot a season low 2 under par 70. Fitzpatrick has excelled this spring winning his second event after firing a front 9 score of 35 (-1) and an identical 35 (-1) on his back 9. Senior Brian Viola played a stellar round of golf highlighted by a 2 over par front nine (38) and an even par back nine (36) for a day of 74.
  • Men’s Golf finishes 5th out of 18 at Peter King Memorial

    The St. Thomas Aquinas Men's golf team finished 5th this past weekend at the Dowling College Peter King Memorial with a two day total 630 (309-321). On day one the Spartans were led by Chris Fitzpatrick who fired a tournament low 71 and senior Brian Viola who posted a solid round of 76. Rounding out the scoring were senior Pat Schwarze with an 80 and Tommy Fioramonti who shot 82. With a team score of 309, the Spartans found themselves 9 shots off the lead trailing Adelphi University (300) and Post University (309).

    The St. Thomas Aquinas men's golf team was ranked third in the NCAA Division II East Region as of March 27th. The Spartans recently won their annual spring invitation where sophomore Chris Fitzpatrick took first place shooting even par over the course of the two days.

    The St. Thomas Aquinas men’s golf team captured their annual Spring Invitational for a second consecutive year behind two solid team rounds. All five team players finished in the top twenty, with sophomore Chris Fitzpatrick earning medalist honors with a brilliant weekend of even par golf (73-71).

    The St. Thomas Aquinas golf team finished in 10th place at the St. John's Invitational in Puerto Rico held at Palmas del Mar Resort. After an opening round of 304, the Spartans struggled in the second and third rounds posting team scores of 317 both days. Sophomore Chris Fitzpatrick was the low scorer of the week posting scorers of 72-77-78 for a total of 227 and leaving him tied for 28th out of a solid field of top-notch Division I players.

    The St. Thomas Aquinas baseball team dropped both games to St. Rose on Friday in Palm Beach, FL. STAC lost the first game 2-8 followed by a 2-6 defeat in the second game. The Spartans will play a total of ten games in Florida over the course of the week.

The Spartans were led by sophomore Chris Fitzpatrick's even par round of 72 and senior Patrick Schwarze who finished at one over par (73).

    The St. Thomas Aquinas men's golf team is set to embark on another exciting spring season with their annual trip south to beautiful Puerto Rico. The Spartans will be among nine Division I opponents when they face off at the 2nd Annual St. John's Spring Invitational. The event is hosted at the Palmas del Mar resort in Humacao, PR. Among the nine teams are Notre Dame, St. John's University, Virginia Commonwealth, Bowling Green, George Mason, UNC Greensboro, Johnson & Whales, Old Dominion and Santa Clara.

    The Spartans who are coming off a strong 2007-2008 season in which they advanced to the NCAA regionals are off to a good start in their first two tournaments of the fall. STAC finished third out of twenty schools in the ECAC Championship held at Long Island National Golf Club in Riverhead, NY. STAC was led by Brian Viola who tied for first place with a two-day total of 143 (+1).

    The St. Thomas Aquinas Men’s Golf Team finished 3rd amongst sixteen other schools that participated in the Dowling College September Shootout. The tournament was played at Long Island National in Riverhead, NY. STAC posted a team score of 306 the first round and 311 the second day to give them a total round of 617.
