  • Local Podiatrist Addresses Spartan Athletes

    On Sunday, February 22nd, the St. Thomas Aquinas College athletes had the opportunity to speak with local podiatrist, Dr. Conenello. Dr. Connello addressed over twenty-five athletes from the Cross Country, Track & Field and Women’s Soccer teams about how to care for their feet.
  • Nicole Ballou Announced Assistant Director of Athletics/Head Women's Soccer Coach

    St. Thomas Aquinas Athletic Director Gerald Oswald has announced the promotion of Nicole Ballou as Assistant Director of Athletics/ Head Women's Soccer Coach. As Assistant Director of Athletics, Ballou's main responsibilities will be to assist in the day to day operations of the athletic department as well as act as the moderator of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).
  • Student-Athletes Honored at STAC Sports Banquet

    The St. Thomas Aquinas College Athletic Department hosted its Fall Sports Award Banquet on Thursday November 6th. The Spartans honored the student athletes from the men’s and women’s soccer and cross country teams as well as the women’s tennis team.
  • Freshmen Katherine Dapolito Named to ECC All-Conference Team

    St. Thomas Aquinas freshmen midfielder, Katherine Dapolito was named to the ECC Women's Soccer All-Conference Third Team. Dapolito, out of Stony Point, NY, lead the Spartans with eleven goals this season. The eleven goals are the most goals scored by a freshmen in a single season in STAC history.* Dapolito was one of eight freshmen that made up this years squad that went 3-12-2. The rookie scored four goals in her collegiate debut against Mt. St. Vincent College. She had four consecutive games in which she scored for the Spartans as well as a goal with three seconds left to play against Mercy College which tied the game 1-1. The All-Conference Teams were selected by the coaches from the ten schools that make up the East Coast Conference.
  • Lady Spartans Drop Final Game to Adelphi 5-1

    The St. Thomas Aquinas women's soccer team dropped their final game of the season to Adelphi yesterday afternoon. The Lady Spartans finish the season with a record of 3-12-2. Freshmen Liz Gronwoldt scored the only goal for STAC at 31:49 in the second half.
  • Spartans Shut Out Clippers 3-0

    The St. Thomas Aquinas women's soccer team blasted Concordia 3-0 in yesterday's ECC matchup. The Spartan's Katherine Dapolito scored the opening goal of the game just twenty minutes into play. Dapolito scored her second goal of the day off a breakaway that she shot past the Clippers goalkeeper Aileen Alvear at (66:05). Junior Ashley Nevins scored the final goal of the game from 25 yards out, recording her first goal of the season.
  • #6 Regionally Ranked Bridgeport Too Much for Spartans

    The St. Thomas Aquinas women's soccer team suffered a 5-0 loss to the University of Bridgeport yesterday. The Spartans were unable to get on the scoreboard for the third consecutive game as they were outshot 29-7 by the Purple Knights. The Knights had four different scorers in the first half shutting out the Spartans 4-0. Bridgeport's junior, Sophia Hoflin scored two goals for the game.
  • Lady Spartans Honor Seniors in Pre-Game Ceremony

    The St. Thomas Aquinas women's soccer team recognized their two seniors Carolina Bruschi and Stacey Samora in a pre-game ceremony before their game against Queens College. The two senior captains were given flowers by their teammates and coaches in thanks for their hard work and dedication over the past four years.
  • Spartans Fall 7-0 to Regionally Ranked CW Post

    The St. Thomas Aquinas women's soccer team was shut out by CW Post in yesterday's conference event. The Pioneers are ranked fourth in the NCSAA/Adidas Division II National Poll and are at the top of the East Coast Confernce with a 12-1 record. The Spartans drop to 2-9-2 on the year as the young team is still looking for its first conference win.
  • Spartans Come Up Short Against Molloy

    The St. Thomas Aquinas women's soccer team dropped a 2-1 conference game to the visiting Lions of Molloy College. STAC was down 2-0 in the first half but continued their attack as sophomore Nicole Biolsi scored with 12:58 left to play. The Spartans had a few other opportunities to tie up the score but came up short.
  • Spartans Fall to Bears 1-0

    The STAC Women's Soccer Team dropped a 1-0 decision to NYIT in Old Westbury, NY. The Bears scored with one minute remaining in the first half which proved to be enough to claim the victory. Freshmen Julia Karl recorded 6 saves for the Spartans.
  • STAC Drops Conference Opener 4-0

    The Lady Spartans fell to visiting Dowling College in their ECC home opener at the North Rockland Soccer Association. Dowling got off to a quick start which included three goals in the first half and STAC was unable to overcome the deficit.
  • Spartans Defeat Cross Town Foe Dominican

    The STAC women's soccer team beat cross town rival Dominican College 3-2. This decisive win couldn't have come at a more opportune time, giving the Spartans some momentum as they begin conference play on Wednesday. Leading scorer Katherine Dapolito scored the first goal of the game twenty five minutes into play off an assist by Liz Gronwoldt.
  • Spartans Drop Road Game to Post

    The STAC women's soccer team dropped a road game to Post University in Connecticut, 2-0. The Spartans fell behind early when the Eagles sophomore Rachel Shivers scored at the fourteen minute mark. STAC had eight shot attempts to the Eagles eleven.
  • STAC Comes from Behind to Earn Tie

    The STAC women's soccer team hung tight against the Bloomfield Deacons to earn their second tie of the season. The Spartans were down 2-0 until freshmen Katherine Dapolito cut the score in half with her eighth goal of the season. Dapolito has scored one goal in each of the last four games including the game tying goal against Mercy College. Elizabeth Pagnani and Liz Gronwoldt also scored for the Spartans.

    The STAC women's soccer team fell short in their come back run against Felician College on Thursday evening. The Spartans were down 2-0 until freshmen Liz Gronwodlt's goal nine minutes into the second half put them within one.
  • Dapolito's Last Second Goal Sends Spartans into Overtime

    STAC freshmen Katherine Dapolito scored a goal with three seconds left in the game to tie the game 1-1 and send the Spartans into their first overtime. The Spartans were unable to connect on a goal throughout two overtime periods ending the game in a tie.
  • Powerful AIC Beats STAC

    The Lady Spartans (1-3) dropped their third consecutive game to Northeast-10 powerhouse AIC. STAC got off to a good start as freshmen Katherine Dapolito scored the first goal of the game, however the Yellow Jackets answered back with six goals of their own to improve their overall record to 5-0-1 with the victory.

    The STAC women's soccer team found themselves down early against cross town rival Nyack College. The Spartans struggled in the first half giving up three goals. Senior captain Stacey Samora scored her first goal of the season at 86:03. Samora is second on STAC's all time* scoring list with 14 career goals.
  • Lady Spartans Drop First Road Game

    The STAC women’s soccer team was dealt their first loss of the season by the Chestnut Hill Griffins in Philadelphia Sunday afternoon. Despite out shooting the Griffins 10 to 3, the Spartans found themselves down 1-0 at the end of the first half. Senior Captain Stacey Samora had a good look at the goal but came up empty after a great save by Chestnut Hill goalie Caitlin Lafferty. Samora was one of four Spartans to have at least three shot attempts. The Griffins were sparked by freshmen Chelsea Steinard’s goal at 13:54 off an assist from fellow freshmen Lauren Riff.
  • Women's Soccer Kicks Off Season with 9-0 Win

    The STAC women's soccer team opened their season with a 9-0 win over the visiting Dolphins of Mount Saint Vincent College. The Lady Spartans were lead by freshmen Katherine Dapolito and Liz Gronwoldt who rallied off four and two goals respectively over the first twenty-five minutes of the game. Nicole Biolsi and Michaelle Kelly rounded out the scoring for STAC.
  • Women’s Soccer Season Outlook

    Two weeks into the soccer season and head coach Al Moroni is already feeling optimistic about this year’s team. “This is by far one of the best teams we’ve had since I’ve been at STAC,” said Moroni, who is entering his eighth season. The Lady Spartans have a balanced combination of experienced players and a talented freshmen class. With eight newcomers added to the roster of two seniors, six junior and two sophomores, the Spartans hope the team can gel and gain chemistry as the season progresses.
  • STAC Women's Soccer selected 8th in the ECC Preseason Poll

    The ECC announced its Preseason Selections for Women's Soccer. St. Thomas Aquinas College was selected 8th out of ten teams. The Lady Spartants finished the 2007 season with a conference record of 2-7-1, and an overall finish of 4-13-1. The Spartans are led by Stacey Samora of Suffern, NY. The senior co-captain led last years squad with six goals.
